Why NOW is a great time to launch your podcast

Lockdown. Home schooling. Uncertainty. Cancelled plans.

These have all become par for the course for business owners over the last year. I get it,  it’s enough to make you want to put all your business development and growth plans on hold.

But here’s the thing. Times, they are a-changin’!

With the roadmap out of lockdown recently unveiled, now really is the time you need to be preparing for the Great British Restart. Because when it comes, you are going to wish you had put all your marketing and development ducks in a row!

Looking back just 12 short months, Covid was only just starting to enter the British psyche as a potentially serious situation. Spring was on the horizon, the days were gradually becoming lighter for longer and we all felt optimistic.

Well, guess what……

That’s all coming around again. The days are getting longer, there’s a little more daylight (even if it is still cold!) and spring really is upon us.

Which means everyone will start to feel a little more optimistic – really soon!

With that in mind, here are two compelling reasons why NOW is a great time to launch your podcast.

Clubhouse has reignited audio

For the uninitiated, Clubhouse is the latest social media platform currently only available to iPhone/iPad users but set to come to Android imminently. Like anything new the early adopters (largely Stateside) have been on the platform for a while but momentum is gathering and people are starting to sign up as fast as they can get themselves an invite.

Being a wholly audio platform, Clubhouse is tapping into its users daily routines in a way that other social platforms can’t. It’s so easy to use whatever you’re doing. Walking the dog, running, driving, whilst you’re sat ‘not watching’ TV in the evenings, while you’re doing chores, cooking meals….. The list literally goes on.

And after a year of working from home and video conferencing morning, noon and night, being able to participate in something that’s so ‘in the moment’ without racking up more screen time is clearly a draw for many.

Of course, there are naysayers (“Why do we need another social platform?”) and those who think it is going to rush in to take everyone away from podcasts. But actually, I think Clubhouse and podcasting can be firm friends… but let’s park that for now. We can explore that another time.

This too shall pass

I totally understand that right now the extended uncertainty has made everyone feel that the day will never come when life gets back to normal… But, as with anything in life, ‘This too shall pass’ and when it does, as we saw between the first two lockdowns of 2020, those who were ready to leap into action immediately, thrived. The business owners who weren’t so prepared got caught off guard and had to run to catch up.

If you’re wondering what that’s got to do with podcasting, let me explain.

Podcasting is most often an evergreen source of marketing material for your business. That means that, except if you’re talking about very time-sensitive matters – your podcast will stay relevant for a long time.

Ergo, having a catalogue of podcasts in your back pocket takes the pressure off when you reopen your doors – real or metaphorical.

If you rely on guests for your podcast, the chances are you’ll find the ones you really want to secure have more availability at the moment too. And, like you, they will be looking at ways to get their own message out to more people right now.

So, if you want to be ready to seize the moment as we travel the journey out of lockdown, now’s the perfect time to get all your marketing ducks in a row.
